Two home runs and four stolen bases in 10 games. That is the entire Elly De La Cruz 30-30 equation with the regular season ending Sept. 27, and it is the only thing left worth watching in Cincinnati. The Reds entered Thursday at 71-81, carrying an "E" in the Wild Card elimination column of their own standings page, 12 games back of the final National League spot with a run differential of minus 148.

De La Cruz is hitting .286/.364/.521 with 28 home runs, 26 stolen bases, 74 RBIs and 94 runs scored, per his MLB.com player page as of Sept. 17. The homers rank 11th in the National League, the steals 10th, the slugging fifth.

He has never finished a season with both numbers at 30. The window is 10 games wide, and the half everyone assumes is a formality is the half actually in doubt.

The Elly De La Cruz 30-30 Math: Two Homers, Four Steals, 10 Games

Cincinnati has played 152 games. That leaves 10, starting with the finale of a home series against the Dodgers on Thursday and continuing with the Cubs arriving at Great American Ball Park on Friday.

Two homers in 10 games is a modest ask for a hitter with eight home runs in his last 30. Four steals is a different proposition. He has five stolen bases across those same 30 games, one every six games, a rate that projects to roughly two more, not four.

Put plainly: to finish the job he needs to run at about double his recent pace while the power side takes care of itself. His last three games say the same thing. He homered Sept. 16 against the Dodgers, stole a base Sept. 15, and homered again Sept. 14.

The Steals, Not the Power, Are the Obstacle

This is the part that inverts the usual framing. Stolen bases have never been De La Cruz's problem. He swiped 35 as a rookie in 2023 (sixth in the NL), 67 in 2024 (first in the NL) and 37 in 2025 (third in the NL). His 26 this season are fewer than in any of those three campaigns and rank 10th. Meanwhile the power has climbed: 28 home runs now against 25 in 2024.

Our earlier coverage of his midseason hamstring stint and the Edwin Arroyo shuffle has the context on the time he lost.

The rate change is real. A player who stole 67 bags two years ago is on a 26-steal season, and the bat getting hot has not brought the legs with it.

The Company a 30-30 Season Would Put Him In

The 30-30 club got considerably less exclusive very recently. Seven players reached the mark in 2025, which MLB.com noted was the most in a single season in league history, ahead of 1987, 1996, 1997, 2011 and 2023, each of which had four.

That 2025 group was Corbin Carroll (31 homers, 32 steals), Jazz Chisholm Jr. (31 and 31), Jose Ramirez (30 and 41), Juan Soto (43 and 38), Francisco Lindor (30 and 31), Pete Crow-Armstrong (30 and 35) and Julio Rodriguez. Crow-Armstrong became the first Cubs player to do it since Sammy Sosa, who managed it in 1993 and 1995.

Over the longer history of the sport the feat is rarer than those last two seasons make it look. For a shortstop with 88 career home runs and 165 career steals, it would be a marker of the profile rather than a career peak.

Betting and DFS Impact of the Elly De La Cruz 30-30 Chase

Start with the honest part. I could not confirm a live season-long 30-30 milestone market at a major book, and I am not going to quote a number I cannot source. These milestone specials are not a standard everyday offering in US sportsbooks; where they appear they tend to be short-lived, low-limit promotions. If you cannot find it priced at your book, that absence is the answer.

What does exist every day is the anytime home run market, and that is the tradeable expression of this chase. He has eight homers in his last 30 games.

Stolen base props are the harder side. They are thinly offered and carry small limits. Given he is running less than he ever has, the risk is that milestone chatter shades a steal prop toward the yes while the underlying rate says otherwise.

The DFS consideration is the one that costs people money in late September. Cincinnati is eliminated, and an eliminated club has no competitive reason to run a franchise shortstop out there every day. Late-season rest is a genuine risk to the chase and to your lineups, so check the posted lineup card before locking anything.

On the awards side, a 30-30 finish is a resume line for down-ballot NL MVP support rather than a path to the award. An .885 OPS on a last-place team is the classic profile for landing in the middle of a ballot. Our 2026 NL MVP odds breakdown covers where the actual race stands.

What to Watch Next

Watch the lineup cards first and the stolen base attempts second. The Dodgers finish their visit Thursday, the Cubs come in Friday, and the season closes Sept. 27.

The tell will come fast. If he is not attempting steals in the next three or four games, the math stops working regardless of how many balls he hits over the wall. If he takes off twice against Chicago, the Elly De La Cruz 30-30 run becomes very live.

Has Elly De La Cruz ever had a 30-30 season before? No. He has cleared 30 steals in each of his three previous seasons, including 67 in 2024, but he had not reached 30 home runs in a season before this one, and he is still short of that mark at 28.

How many games do the Reds have left in 2026? Ten. Cincinnati is 71-81 through 152 games and has been eliminated from the National League Wild Card race. The regular season ends Sept. 27.

Can you bet on Elly De La Cruz to go 30-30? Not reliably. The practical alternatives are daily anytime home run markets and stolen base props, both of which are widely posted.
