Mitch Marner opened the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs at plus-6600 to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. As of Monday morning he sits at plus-165, the runaway favorite ahead of Frederik Andersen and Carter Hart, after posting 21 points (7 goals, 14 assists) in 15 games. He leads the NHL postseason in points, in primary assists (11), and in shorthanded points (4). The Vegas Golden Knights open Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday, June 2 in Raleigh as plus-138 series underdogs to the Carolina Hurricanes (DraftKings, June 1, 10:15 AM ET).

If Vegas wins this series, Marner is the trophy. If Vegas loses but pushes it to seven, Marner might still be in the conversation. He has authored the playoff run that defined every Toronto Maple Leafs postseason argument he could not finish. He is doing it in Vegas, three rounds deep, on a sign-and-trade contract that paid him 96 million dollars over eight years.

The Numbers Behind the Plus-165 Price

Marner's 21 points lead the playoffs. Jack Eichel is second at 18 (2 goals, 16 assists). The next non-Vegas skater on the list is Carolina's Taylor Hall at 16. Marner has averaged 1.40 points per game across three rounds, a number that exceeds his career best playoff PPG from his Toronto years (1.07 in 2023).

The volume breakdown:

1. First round vs Utah: 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) in 5 games. 2. Second round vs Edmonton: 7 points (2 goals, 5 assists) in 6 games. 3. Western Conference Final vs Colorado: 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists) in 4 games (Vegas swept).

The shorthanded production is the underrated piece. Marner's 4 shorthanded points lead the playoffs by two. Bruce Cassidy uses him as the first option on the second penalty kill unit, and Marner has converted that role into the highest-leverage offensive minutes of his career. He has a goal and two assists when killing penalties this postseason. His career regular season total in shorthanded points coming into this run was 11.

The Eichel Question

Marner's case has a structural challenge. Jack Eichel is one point behind. Eichel has 16 assists, which leads the playoffs. If Vegas wins the Cup and Eichel finishes within two points of Marner, the trophy could swing. Conn Smythe voters reward narrative and centers, and Eichel is the captain who delivered Vegas their first Cup in 2023.

The counter is what Marner has been on the ice for. Vegas is plus-12 in 5-on-5 goal differential with Marner on the ice in the playoffs, per Natural Stat Trick. With Eichel on the ice they are plus-7. Marner is averaging 21:42 of ice time per game, third on the team behind defensemen Shea Theodore and Noah Hanifin. Among forwards he is the workhorse.

The Conn Smythe odds at Kalshi show Marner at 37 percent implied probability, Andersen at 33 percent, Eichel at 14 percent. The market sees what the eye test sees. Marner is the engine.

The Andersen Trap

Carolina goalie Frederik Andersen is the real threat. Andersen is 11-1 with a 1.56 GAA and .928 save percentage through three rounds. He has three shutouts. He is 5-0 in overtime games with 33-of-33 saves on overtime shots. If the Hurricanes win the Cup, Andersen is almost certainly Conn Smythe. We covered the series preview and the Andersen narrative here.

The math for Marner backers is therefore conditional. The Conn Smythe future is essentially "will Vegas win the Cup AND will Marner be the obvious choice." If you back Marner plus-165 you are roughly buying a 37 percent probability that he claims the trophy. If you back Vegas to win the Cup at plus-138 (44 percent implied), the conditional probability that Marner takes Conn Smythe given a Vegas win is around 84 percent. That is one of the cleanest correlated parlay structures in the playoffs.

Betting and DFS Impact

Series price (DraftKings, posted June 1, 10:15 AM ET): Vegas plus-138, Carolina minus-162. Conn Smythe: Marner plus-165, Andersen plus-185, Eichel plus-650, Hart plus-1200.

The three plays the market is pricing right now:

1. Marner Conn Smythe plus-165. The cleanest if you believe Vegas wins. The downside is the conditional structure. Hedge with an Andersen ticket if Vegas drops Game 1 at home in the series. 2. Marner over 1.5 points Game 1. DraftKings posted him at over 1.5 points minus-110 for Tuesday. He has hit the over in 9 of 15 playoff games (60 percent). The book has priced this fair. 3. Marner anytime goal plus-160. He has scored in 7 of 15 games (47 percent). Plus-160 implies 38 percent. There is value if you think the Knights need him to be the puck-on-net option against Andersen.

For DFS, Marner is the chalk Game 1 stack at any forward salary tier under $9,000. He pairs with Eichel for the cross-line correlation. The Carolina counter is a Hall plus Jackson Blake double stack against Adin Hill.

What to Watch in Game 1

Marner's first power play shift is the early read. Andersen is 92.4 percent on the penalty kill across three rounds. If Vegas converts on the opening man advantage, the price compression on Marner Conn Smythe will be immediate. If Carolina blanks the Vegas power play across both teams' first two opportunities, the Andersen Conn Smythe number drops back to plus-150 and the trophy market re-shapes around the goalie.
