The 2026/27 Champions League league phase opens at 18:45 CET on Tuesday 8 September 2026 and does not close until Wednesday 27 January 2027. Matchday 1 is 18 matches over three nights, six per night, and the Champions League fixtures 2026-27 board is headlined by Real Madrid vs Inter on the Tuesday and Liverpool vs Atletico de Madrid on the Wednesday.
That weighting matters more than a normal opening week used to. Every result feeds one combined 36-club league table rather than a self-contained group, so points banked in September sit on the same ladder as points banked in January. There is no sealed pool to quietly recover in.

Why Matchday 1 runs across three days, and the full calendar
The arithmetic explains the sprawl. Thirty-six clubs means 18 matches in the round, and UEFA has split them six on Tuesday, six on Wednesday and six on Thursday. The competition is in its third season under the league phase format, its 72nd overall.
Eight matchdays run from September to January:
Matchday 1: 8 to 10 September 2026
Matchday 2: 13 and 14 October 2026
Matchday 3: 20 and 21 October 2026
Matchday 4: 3 and 4 November 2026
Matchday 5: 24 and 25 November 2026
Matchday 6: 8 and 9 December 2026
Matchday 7: 19 and 20 January 2027
Matchday 8: 27 January 2027
Matchday 8 is the outlier: all 18 matches kick off on a single Wednesday night, 27 January 2027, including Arsenal vs Sabah, Shakhtar Donetsk vs Real Madrid, Manchester City vs Sporting CP, Paris Saint-Germain vs Galatasaray, Villarreal vs Manchester United and Liverpool vs Lens.
After the table closes, the knockout phase play-offs land on 16 and 17 February 2027 and 23 and 24 February 2027, ahead of a round of 16 on 9 and 10 March and 16 and 17 March. Quarter-finals follow on 6 and 7 April and 13 and 14 April, semi-finals on 27 and 28 April and 4 and 5 May, and the final is at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid on Saturday 5 June 2027. It is Madrid's sixth final and the second at that ground.
How the Matchday 1 board splits across the three nights
Real Madrid vs Inter is one of four 21:00 kick-offs on the Tuesday, and Liverpool vs Atletico de Madrid is one of four 21:00 kick-offs on the Wednesday. Spain sends five clubs into the league phase (Atletico de Madrid, Barcelona, Real Betis, Real Madrid and Villarreal) and England sends five (Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United).
Napoli vs Arsenal puts an Italian host against an English visitor, Porto vs Manchester City sends an English side to Portugal on the opening Tuesday, and Barcelona vs Feyenoord is one of the two 18:45 kick-offs on the Wednesday.
Sixteen associations are represented across the 36 entrants, from Austria and Azerbaijan through to Ukraine. UEFA lists the full field by association and notes that the list is provisional, based purely on sporting performance, and pending final admittance of clubs.
Betting and DFS impact, mechanism over prices
This is a fixture board, not a price board, and the directional point is the one that matters in September. A single combined table changes what a Matchday 1 result is worth: points are cumulative across the whole phase rather than group-relative, so a road draw in Porto or Naples carries table equity that an old group-stage opener simply did not.
The 18:45 CET slots are the thin-liquidity windows. Six of the 18 matches sit there, two on each of the three nights, so a third of the round resolves outside the main 21:00 block. Treat those differently from the 21:00 board.
The three-day spread is the other practical change. Accumulators that used to resolve across two nights now resolve across three, which lengthens exposure and makes correlated-parlay construction messier, since legs on different days sit under different information sets. For DFS, the Thursday slate is a separate build, not an extension of Tuesday and Wednesday. Our Champions League 2026-27 futures page covers the outright market separately.
What to watch next
Matchday 2 arrives on 13 and 14 October 2026. The Tuesday includes Arsenal vs Lille, Atletico de Madrid vs Manchester United, Galatasaray vs Barcelona and Viking vs Bayern Munchen. The Wednesday includes Roma vs Real Madrid, Manchester City vs Paris Saint-Germain and LASK vs Liverpool. UEFA has published those as selected fixtures, not the full 18.
Matchday 3 on 20 and 21 October then stacks fixtures including Paris Saint-Germain vs Barcelona, Liverpool vs Villarreal, Bayern Munchen vs Arsenal, Real Madrid vs Leipzig and Como vs Manchester United.
