Analyse

Real Madrid starts their campaign as heavy favorites, and the model sees a massive 11.8 percent edge on the moneyline. Espanyol is coming off a massive 3 to 0 win in their opener, which has the public feeling a bit too brave. They are currently sitting with the top ranked offense in the league after that one game sample size. But let's be real. Real Madrid is the class of the league for a reason. Even with only one day of rest compared to the six days Espanyol has enjoyed, the talent gap is wide. The model puts the win probability for the favorites at a very high level, and we are trusting the pedigree over a small sample size of stats. The matchup data shows Espanyol has the number one offense while Real Madrid has the number 15 defense. That sounds scary until you realize Madrid hasn't even stepped on the pitch yet. It's a classic case of early season stat distortion. Madrid's offense is also ranked 15th for the same reason. Don't let the temporary rankings fool you. The model spread is sitting at 0.5, but it expects a much more dominant performance than the book's line suggests. Laying the juice on the moneyline is the play here because Madrid isn't looking to drop points in their debut. They will find a way to break through that top ranked Espanyol defense. This is a game where the public sees a live dog, but the sharp play is sticking with the giants of Spanish football.

Gegen die Öffentlichkeit

The public is falling in love with Espanyol after their 3 to 0 shutout victory last week. They see a tired Madrid team on short rest and think an upset is brewing, but the model knows the talent disparity is far too great to ignore.

Analyse

Athletic Club enters this match as the clear favorite according to our model, which gives them a 70.4 percent chance to win. That translates to an 11.2 percent edge on the minus 145 moneyline. Sevilla is already 1 and 0 after a solid 2 to 1 victory, but the numbers suggest they might be in for a reality check. Sevilla currently boasts the number 3 offense in the league, while Athletic Club is ranked 15th defensively. But again, we are dealing with a team that hasn't played its first game yet. The rest situation is the biggest hurdle for Athletic Club. They have only had one day to prepare while Sevilla has been sitting on six days of rest. That is usually a red flag, but the model is looking past it. Despite that rest disadvantage, the model is incredibly bullish on the home side. Sevilla's defense is ranked 5th, but they will be tested by an Athletic Club squad that historically plays very tough at home. The model spread is minus 0.7, which is basically right on the minus 0.75 line offered by books. However, the value is clearly on the straight moneyline. Athletic Club needs to start their season with a statement. Sevilla might have the offensive stats from their first match, but they allowed a goal and looked vulnerable at times. Trust the home favorites to overcome the short rest and secure the three points. It is a high confidence play for a reason.

Gegen die Öffentlichkeit

Bettors are looking at Sevilla's six day rest advantage and their early season win as a reason to take the points. They are underestimating how difficult it is to play at San Mames, especially when Athletic Club is fresh for their home opener.

Analyse

This is the tightest matchup on the board for Saturday. Both Valencia and Celta Vigo are making their season debuts, so we are working with clean slates here. The model is leaning toward Valencia at minus 0.25, but the edge is a slim 1 percent. Both teams are projected to score 1.4 goals and allow 0.0, which essentially means the model expects a very competitive, low scoring affair. Valencia is getting the slight nod because of the home field advantage, which often makes the difference in these early season toss ups. It is hard to separate these two when they haven't put any recent tape out, but the home side usually has the upper hand in the opener. The moneyline is sitting at plus 148 for Valencia, offering a decent payout for a team that the model gives a 56 percent win probability. It is not a lock by any means, but it's a solid lean if you're looking for a plus money play. Celta Vigo is always a tough out, but they have struggled to find consistency on the road in previous campaigns. Without any recent form to go on, we are trusting the baseline projections that favor the home side's defensive structure. Expect a cagey match where one goal might be enough to settle it. If you're playing the spread, taking Valencia minus 0.25 covers you in case of a draw, which is a very real possibility here. We are keeping it simple and backing the home team in a coin flip.

Gegen die Öffentlichkeit

The public thinks this is a pure 50 50 toss up and might be tempted by the draw. The model suggests that the home field edge for Valencia is being slightly undervalued in what should be a very narrow contest.
