Texas is sending Tyler Alexander to the mound and his season long numbers are a total lie right now. While he owns a respectable 2.79 ERA on the year, his recent form is a complete disaster. He has posted an 8.18 ERA over his last few starts and that is exactly the kind of regression we look for when fading a home favorite. The model sees a massive 11.8 percent edge on Chicago keeping this game close or winning it outright. Chicago is actually the better offensive team in this matchup. They rank eighth in the league in scoring while the Rangers are stuck down at twenty third. Anthony Kay is starting for the White Sox and he is moving in the opposite direction of Alexander. Kay has a 3.63 ERA lately which is better than his season average of 4.24. Chicago has also been playing better baseball lately with a 6 and 4 record in their last ten games. Texas is just 5 and 5 in that same span and they struggle to cover at home where they only have a 48 percent success rate against the spread. The White Sox cover 52 percent of the time on the road. This is a clear spot where the public is betting on the name on the front of the jersey rather than the actual numbers on the field. Take the runs with the road dog.

The public sees the Rangers as a home favorite and Alexander's shiny season ERA and they think it's an easy win. They are completely ignoring his 8.18 ERA in recent starts and the fact that Chicago has a top ten offense.

The total of 7.5 is way too low for a game involving Bailey Ober in his current state. Ober has been getting hammered lately to the tune of a 6.30 ERA. While the Guardians offense is not exactly a juggernaut ranking twenty ninth in the league, even bad offenses can feast on a pitcher who is leaving everything over the heart of the plate. Minnesota's defense is also a major liability as they rank twenty sixth in the league. On the other side we have the Twins offense which is a top ten unit. They are facing Slade Cecconi who has a 4.55 ERA on the season. While Cecconi has been slightly better lately, the Twins score nearly five runs per game on average. The model projects this total at 8.4 runs which gives us a huge 11.7 percent edge on the over. These two teams have split their eight meetings this year and the average margin is very slim. But the real story is the pitching regression. When you have two starters with ERAs over four and one of them is trending toward seven, you don't bet on a low scoring game. The Guardians might not be an offensive powerhouse but they do enough to help push this over the total. Expect plenty of traffic on the base paths early and often in this one.

This is my favorite total on the board for Wednesday. People see Sandy Alcantara and they immediately think of the guy who won the Cy Young. But he is human this year with a 3.89 ERA. Houston has already beaten Miami twice this season with an average margin of 2.5 runs and their offense ranks twelfth in the league. They know how to get to Alcantara. Peter Lambert is starting for Houston and while his 3.03 ERA is impressive, the Houston defense is a massive problem. They rank twenty fifth in the league in defensive efficiency. That means even when Lambert pitches well, the defense behind him tends to let runners reach and score. Miami has a mid tier offense that is capable of taking advantage of those mistakes. Both of these teams are 3 and 7 in their last ten games which usually leads to some sloppy play and extra scoring opportunities. The model puts this total at nearly 9 runs which makes the line of 8 look very soft. We have an 11.6 percent edge here and a high confidence level of 83 percent. Houston scores 4.5 runs per game and Miami matches that exactly. If both teams just hit their season averages we are already over the number. And with the defensive issues for the Astros, this could get high scoring fast.
