The Knicks tip Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals at plus-164 on the FanDuel moneyline Saturday night in San Antonio, sitting on a 3-1 series lead and a chance to win their first title since 1973. The total is 216.5. The Spurs are minus-198 favorites at home, 5.5-point chalk, and historically the more comfortable bet. Only one team in NBA Finals history has closed out a 3-1 lead on the road in a Game 5: the 1991 Bulls at the Forum. New York gets a shot at the second.

What The Number Says

A 5.5-point spread on a closeout road dog is a real market read. The Spurs reopened as 4-point home favorites at DraftKings late Wednesday night, per dknetwork's opening line tracker, and the line drifted out to Spurs minus-5.5 by Saturday morning at FanDuel. That is a full point of money on San Antonio between Game 4's final buzzer and tip-off, which lines up with the public hesitation about backing a road closer in Wembanyama's building.

The implied probabilities, off FanDuel: Spurs 66.4%, Knicks 37.9% (overround 4.3). That is roughly the price of a normal home favorite in a non-Finals regular-season game, not a Game 5 where the underdog has won three of the four. Road teams have won every game in this series so far. That is only the second time it has happened in Finals history, per ESPN.

The Closeout Math Nobody Wants To Talk About

The Knicks are 3-0 in closeout games this postseason and have clinched all three on the road. They closed the Pistons in Detroit (first round), the Celtics in Boston (second round), and the Cavaliers in Cleveland (conference finals). They have not been to a Game 6 in any of the three previous series. That track record matters more than the 5.5-point spread does.

The other side: 1 of the 36 NBA Finals teams that have taken a 3-1 lead on the road have closed it in Game 5 on the road. That one team was the Michael Jordan Bulls. Every other 3-1 leader has either closed at home in Game 5, lost Game 5 and closed at home in Game 6, or, in one case (Cleveland 2016), lost the series. The Knicks need to be Jordan-tier good or Spurs-tier sloppy to get this done Saturday. Game 4's 29-point comeback says they are perfectly willing to be both.

Brunson and Wembanyama: The Two Props That Define The Night

Jalen Brunson is at 27.5 points (minus-114) on FanDuel for Game 5. He has hit the over in three of four Finals games and posted 36 in Game 4 (12-of-25, 9-of-11 from the line, 7 assists, 3 steals, 44 minutes). The SportsLine model projects him at 24, which is a fade. The market disagrees. Brunson's three-point prop is at plus-121 for three-or-more, a number that traces directly to his 3-of-7 Game 4 night and the fact that San Antonio's drop coverage on Wemby pick-and-rolls has been giving up pull-ups since Game 2.

Victor Wembanyama's number is 11.5 rebounds at minus-106, after a 13-rebound, 24-point, 3-block Game 4 in which he shot 9-of-25. His series averages: 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.4 blocks. The interesting prop is the points-rebounds-assists combo at 39.5, currently plus-105. He cleared it in three of four games. The fade case is Game 4: he was minus-13 in 38 minutes and the Spurs were plus-9 in his five minutes off the floor. Gregg Popovich has not adjusted the rotation, which means Game 5's tempo is going to look a lot like Game 4's third quarter, when New York outscored San Antonio 30-13.

DFS Exposure: Where The Pricing Is Off

On DraftKings DFS for the Finals showdown slate, Brunson at $11,800 captain and Anunoby at $11,000 captain are the obvious plays. The leverage is in the second-tier guards. Mikal Bridges is $7,800 and has scored 18+ in two of four Finals games against San Antonio's drop. Josh Hart is at $6,400 with a six-or-more assists prop hanging at plus-154; he posted 8 in Game 3 and 7 in Game 4. Stack Brunson with Hart and you get Knicks pace correlation without paying for it twice.

The Spurs DFS pivot is De'Aaron Fox. He went 4-of-13 in Game 4 with five turnovers and his salary has not come down. If Popovich runs him off Brunson defensively for stretches the way he did in Game 3, the usage takes a hit. The high-leverage Spurs play is Devin Vassell at $5,200, who is shooting 41% from three in the series and has the green light any time Wembanyama draws two defenders.

Betting Impact

The market is pricing this game like a regular-season home favorite in a tough spot. That is wrong by about a point. The Knicks have shown they can close on the road, they have the best player on the floor in Brunson when it matters in fourth quarters (he has outscored every Finals player in clutch minutes through four games), and they have the +/- math on Wemby that nobody on the broadcast wants to say out loud. Spurs minus-5.5 needs Wemby to stay on the floor and avoid the third-quarter collapse pattern. Knicks plus-5.5 needs Brunson to be Brunson and Anunoby to hit four threes. Both are realistic. The under at 216.5 is the cleanest sweat. San Antonio went 3-of-17 from three in the second half of Game 4 and New York's defensive rating in closeout games this postseason is 102.4. Two teams trying to win a Finals tend to grind, not race.

What To Watch Next

If New York wins, the Larry O'Brien trophy is presented at Frost Bank Center and the Finals MVP race comes down to Brunson (currently minus-135 at DraftKings) and OG Anunoby (plus-280 after his 33-point Game 4). If San Antonio wins, the series shifts back to Madison Square Garden for Game 6 on Monday and the Spurs become live plus-money to force a Game 7 back in San Antonio Wednesday.
