The league dropped the full grid on Aug. 13, 2026, but the two dates everyone actually searches for were already public. Christmas came out Aug. 11. Opening night was announced earlier still. If you want the NBA schedule 2026-27 in one place, start with the frame: Oct. 20 to April 11, 1,230 games, and only 80 of each team's 82 currently have an opponent attached.

The other two are blank on purpose, which is the first thing a bettor should notice.

The NBA Schedule 2026-27 Framework: Oct. 20 to April 11

The league's 81st regular season tips Tuesday, Oct. 20 and ends Sunday, April 11, 2027, with all 30 teams playing that final day. Across those roughly six months there are 247 national TV games spread over ABC/ESPN, NBC/Peacock and Prime Video, per NBA.com, and every team gets at least two national appearances.

Now the wrinkle. Each team's last two games are unassigned. They get filled between Friday, Dec. 4 and Thursday, Dec. 10, once Emirates NBA Cup Group Play settles who is still alive. Group Play is 60 games on Cup Nights every Friday from Oct. 30 through Nov. 27, plus Nov. 24 and Nov. 25. Quarterfinals land Dec. 4 and 5, semifinals Dec. 8 and/or Dec. 9, and the Championship is Friday, Dec. 11 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Two more structural items. No games are scheduled for Election Day, Nov. 3, with all 30 teams playing Nov. 2 instead. And nothing is scheduled for April 10, so the season closes in one block on April 11.

The Marquee Dates: Opening Night, Christmas, All-Star

Opening night, Tuesday, Oct. 20, is a three-game NBC/Peacock tripleheader:

1. Celtics at Pistons, 3 p.m. ET 2. 76ers at Knicks, 7 p.m. ET 3. Thunder at Spurs, 9:30 p.m. ET

The 7 p.m. game is the banner game in both senses. New York raises its 2025-26 championship banner, then hosts a Philadelphia team debuting LeBron James and Jaylen Brown. The nightcap is a rematch of the 2026 Western Conference finals.

Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, is five games, all on ABC/ESPN, the 19th consecutive year the league has run a five-game slate:

1. Spurs at Knicks, 12 p.m. ET 2. Heat at Celtics, 2:30 p.m. ET 3. 76ers at Lakers, 5 p.m. ET 4. Thunder at Timberwolves, 8 p.m. ET 5. Nuggets at Warriors, 10:30 p.m. ET

The noon window is the 2026 NBA Finals rematch. New York and San Antonio played that series from June 3 to June 13, 2026, and now the Knicks host the Spurs at Madison Square Garden. The 5 p.m. game is James returning to Los Angeles in a Philadelphia uniform. NBA.com lists him at 20 career Christmas games, most all time, with a 21st on target, plus the record for points (525) and wins (11) on Dec. 25.

Everything else worth circling: Mexico City on Nov. 7 (Nuggets vs. Pacers), the trade deadline Feb. 11, All-Star 2027 from Feb. 19 to 21 in Phoenix, the Paris Game Jan. 14 and the league's first regular-season game in Manchester, England on Jan. 17, both Spurs vs. Pelicans. The SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament runs April 13 to 16.

Betting and DFS Impact: What the Structure Does to Prices

A listicle stops at the dates. Here is what the shape of it does to season-long markets.

1. Rest edges got scarcer. Teams average 14.2 back-to-backs this season, the lowest average since the NBA Cup was introduced, and nobody plays more than 16. There are also zero instances of four games in five nights, eight in 12, or 18 in 30, the three patterns teams themselves flag as hardest. Fading tired legs was already a crowded trade, and there is measurably less of it on the board this year. 2. The marquee dates are protected, so they price clean. No team plays the day before a national TV opening week game, any NBA Cup game, Christmas, the four-game MLK Day slate, the four-game Presidents' Day slate, the 10-game ABC Saturday schedule, the six-game ABC Sunday schedule or the 16-game NBC Sunday schedule. In all of those games neither side is on the second night of a back-to-back, so the usual second-night discount is off the table. 3. Long travel on short rest is disappearing. Estimated travel sits near all-time lows at roughly 42,500 miles per team across the 80 assigned games, and only 59 back-to-backs involve 750-plus miles, down from 74 last season and third lowest in the 30-team era. There are 47 TV games on the second night of a back-to-back, which NBA.com calls an improvement of 66 from last season.

For DFS the practical takeaway is that Dec. 4 to Dec. 10 window. Part of the league will be playing Cup knockout games, part will be filling in regular-season games that do not exist on the calendar yet, so those slates will be small, oddly shaped and late to lock. The protected dates cut both ways. With neither side on a second night, minutes projections are cleaner, but the late rest and load-management scratches that manufacture DFS value largely disappear.

What to Watch Next

Three things between now and Oct. 20.

First, those two unassigned games per team, which do not get real opponents until Group Play ends Nov. 27. Any team win total you buy before then is a bet on two games nobody can see.

Second, Philadelphia's opening week. The 76ers open at New York on Oct. 20, then hold James's Philadelphia home debut against Cleveland on Oct. 22. Two nationally televised looks at a new fit inside 72 hours, and the futures board will move on both.

Third, Knicks at Cavaliers on Dec. 21, which NBA.com bills as a 2026 Eastern Conference finals rematch.
