Fantasy football 2026 injury fallout starts in San Francisco

The 49ers moved fast. NFL.com reported the team reunited with Deebo Samuel on a one-year deal and announced it officially on Saturday, the same day Pearsall's surgery news broke. San Francisco had already added six-time Pro Bowler Mike Evans in March, so the room Pearsall was supposed to headline now runs through two veterans.

The bigger swing is at tight end. CBS Sports reported the 49ers activated George Kittle off the PUP list on Aug. 23 as he works back from a torn Achilles, with a Week 1 appearance against the Rams in Australia on the table but not certain. Houston: Kayshon Boutte walked into the thinnest room in the AFC South

Jayden Higgins tore his ACL in a joint practice with the Raiders and is out for the season, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Higgins caught 41 passes for 525 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie and was set to be Houston's clear No. 2 behind Nico Collins. He went on injured reserve Aug. 21.

Houston rebuilt the room in 72 hours. NFL.com reported the Texans signed Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard off tryouts on Aug. 21, then agreed to acquire Kayshon Boutte from New England on Monday for safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick. Boutte set a career high with six touchdown catches last year.

NFL.com named Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Justin Watson as the internal options, and that is the honest read: nobody is confirmed as the starter opposite Collins. Boutte arrived a week before cuts with no camp reps here, which usually means a ramp. A stash, not a plug-and-play.

New Orleans: Travis Etienne Jr. is in line for the backfield

Alvin Kamara sprained his MCL in a joint practice with the Cowboys on Aug. 18, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the next day that he will miss at least a month. New Orleans opens at Detroit on Sept. 13, inside that window.

The Saints' own unofficial depth chart lists Travis Etienne Jr. and Kamara as co-first-teamers, with Kendre Miller second and Devin Neal third. Etienne signed a four-year deal in March that pays more than $12 million per year over its first three years, and with Kamara down he is in line for early-down and passing-down work. Las Vegas: the Ashton Jeanty situation is a hold, not a sell

Jeanty dove for a pass on Sunday, landed awkwardly, and left practice without putting weight on his right leg. Jeremy Fowler reported on Good Morning Football that Jeanty is believed to have suffered a sprained ankle, and Schefter reported an ankle sprain. The Raiders have not put a timeline on it.

That is all that is known. Nobody has said high or low ankle, and nobody has ruled him out for Sept. 13 against Miami. NFL.com noted rookie Mike Washington Jr. would likely be thrust into the lead role if Jeanty misses substantial time, with Dylan Laube, Roman Hemby and Dare Ogunbowale also on the roster. The two injuries drafters are overrating

Breece Hall hurt his groin on Aug. 17. Jets coach Aaron Glenn said it would sideline him two to three weeks and would not carry into the regular season, and NFL.com reported he is expected to be ready for Week 1. Buying his handcuff at a premium pays for a problem already scheduled to resolve.

Sam LaPorta is murkier but not dire. Dan Campbell said the tight end took a hit to the hip, that "it flared up a little bit, it's a little aggravated," and that the Lions "feel good long-term about him." Campbell added he feels LaPorta should be OK for Week 1 but is not sure. LaPorta is also back from late-November back surgery that ended his 2025 season. Monitor, not a drop.

Betting and DFS impact: read team totals, not player prices

The cleanest signal from this wave is not at a skill position, it is up front. Chargers center Tyler Biadasz went on season-ending IR with knee damage, and Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps that NFL.com reported is likely to cost him a significant portion of the season. Line losses move team totals more reliably than a No. 2 receiver swap does.

For DFS, the leverage sits in the first two weeks, before pricing catches up to snap counts. Washington and Etienne are the cleanest examples of a role that changed after the price was set.
