We have a full fifteen game slate this Sunday and the board is looking very interesting. I have sifted through the data and found three spots where the books are practically giving money away. The model is screaming about a massive edge in D.C. while the White Sox look like a lock to keep things close in Minnesota.

WSH vs MIA

The Nationals Are Getting Disrespected

Nationals +1.5Track on Stat Sniper

Edge

32.1%

Confidence

90%

Analysis

The Nationals are catching a lot of points here and I do not understand why. Our model has the spread at minus 0.6 for Washington, yet the books are giving us 1.5 runs at home. That is a massive 32.1 percent edge. Andrew Alvarez is the main reason to trust the home team today. He has a season ERA of 3.72, but look at his recent form. He has posted a 3.16 ERA over his last few starts. He is locked in. On the other side, Janson Junk is sitting with a 4.21 ERA. While Junk has been better lately, the Washington offense scores 5.2 runs per game on average. They have the tools to get to him early. Miami has struggled to cover on the road all year. They only cover the spread 46 percent of the time when they travel. Washington is much more reliable at home, covering in 53 percent of their games. Sure, the Marlins have won 8 of the 11 matchups this season, but the average margin is only 1.3 runs. This game is going to be tight. Getting a run and a half with a pitcher who is currently outperforming the opposition is a gift. The Nationals might just win this game outright, so taking the insurance with the spread is the sharp play. They have played well enough lately to stay competitive. And with Alvarez dealing, Miami will struggle to pull away. It is a high confidence play.

Public Fade

Bettors are looking at Miami winning 8 of 11 against Washington this year and thinking it is a lock. They are completely ignoring that Alvarez is the better pitcher right now and Washington actually scores more runs per game.

Player Prop

Janson Junk OVER 0.5 Walks

Edge: 50%

Junk averages 1.3 walks per game and has gone over this 0.5 line in 14 of his 20 starts this season. That is a 70 percent hit rate. He is facing a mid tier offense where he historically averages 1.4 walks per game, which is even higher than his season average.

MIN vs CHW

Chicago Is Too Hot To Fade

White Sox +1.5Track on Stat Sniper

Edge

20.9%

Confidence

74%

Analysis

Chicago is the hottest team in this matchup and it is not even close. They are coming in on a four game winning streak and have won 7 of their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Twins are stumbling with a 3 to 7 record over that same span. The disparity in offensive talent is glaring right now. The White Sox boast the number five offense in the league. They are facing a Minnesota defense that ranks twenty seventh out of thirty teams. That is a recipe for a blowout, yet we are getting 1.5 runs with the better team. Not even close. Zebby Matthews is on the mound for Minnesota and his 4.86 ERA is a major concern. He has been slightly better lately, but he still gives up way too much contact. Jordan Hicks starts for Chicago, and while his recent 6.79 ERA is ugly, his season average of 3.83 is much more representative of his actual talent. Chicago has dominated the season series as well, winning 6 of the 9 games played so far with an average margin of 1.7 runs. The model puts the spread at plus 0.2, meaning this should basically be a pickem. Getting 1.5 runs with a team that has a clear offensive advantage and better recent form is an easy decision. But the public is still betting the home favorite. Let them. We will take the runs and the better lineup.

Public Fade

The public loves backing home favorites like Minnesota, especially when they think a team is due to snap a cold streak. But the White Sox have the number five offense and Minnesota's defense is one of the worst in the league.

Player Prop

Zebby Matthews OVER 2.5 Earned Runs

Edge: 23.7%

Matthews averages 3.1 earned runs per game and has gone over this 2.5 line in half of his 18 starts this year. He averages 4.0 earned runs against mid tier offenses like Chicago, which suggests he will struggle more than usual today.

TOR vs SEA

Seattle Cannot Score On The Road

Blue Jays +1.5Track on Stat Sniper

Edge

19.9%

Confidence

70%

Analysis

This game features two offenses that have been stuck in the mud all season, but Toronto has the edge. Seattle has the worst offense in baseball, ranking 30th out of 30 teams. They only score 3.9 runs per game. Toronto is not much better at 29th, but they are playing at home where they cover 48 percent of the time. Seattle is a disaster on the road. They have only covered the spread in 35 percent of their away games this year. That is a trend you cannot ignore. Max Scherzer is the wild card here. His 7.02 ERA is terrifying, but he has shown signs of life with a 4.66 ERA in his recent starts. He is still Max Scherzer, and against the worst offense in the league, he should be able to navigate the lineup. Logan Gilbert is a stud for Seattle with a 3.36 ERA, but he gets zero run support. The Mariners allow only 3.6 runs per game, but when you cannot score, it does not matter. Toronto has actually won the season series 3 to 2 so far. The model sees this as a 0.4 spread, making the 1.5 line for Toronto very attractive. It is a lean, but the historical data and Seattle's road struggles make the Blue Jays the right side. And honestly, fading a Seattle offense that cannot hit water if they fell out of a boat is always a good idea.

Public Fade

Casual bettors see Logan Gilbert on the mound and immediately bet the Mariners. They ignore that Seattle has the worst offense in the league and a pathetic 35 percent cover rate on the road.

Player Prop

J.P. Crawford UNDER 0.5 Walks

Crawford averages 0.6 walks per game but that number drops to 0.36 when he is on the road. He is currently on a cold streak, averaging only 0.20 walks over his last five games, and the model predicts only a 38.3 percent chance of him drawing a walk.

That is how I am playing the board today. Trust the pitching trends and do not be afraid to take the runs with the underdogs. Good luck with your bets.
