Yordan Alvarez led all of Major League Baseball in on-base percentage (.432) and slugging (.601) this season, and won the American League batting title at .316. On Monday, the BBWAA made his MVP case official: he's one of three AL finalists, alongside Junior Caminero and Bobby Witt Jr., confirmed by MLB.com on Nov. 3. The winner gets revealed Nov. 12 between 6 and 7 p.m. CT on MLB Network.

That field also says something by omission. Aaron Judge, the -130 favorite on StatSniper's own AL MVP board as recently as July 26 while nursing a rib injury, isn't one of the three finalists. Witt Jr. and Alvarez were the challengers flagged back then as best positioned to close the gap if Judge's return fell short of vintage. It did, and both passed him outright for a spot on the actual ballot, no team-success narrative required.

AL MVP Odds 2026: The Field Is Set

Alvarez's full season line: .316/.432/.601, a 1.033 OPS, 42 home runs (tied for second in the AL), 106 RBI (second in the AL), 341 total bases and a 7.2 offensive WAR, per MLB.com's finalist release. Statcast puts him in the 99th percentile in expected batting average, expected slugging and expected wOBA, with a 94.4 mph average exit velocity. He didn't win the Triple Crown outright (he finished second in RBI and tied for second in homers), but he led the junior circuit in the three rate stats that actually define a lineup's engine.

Caminero matched Alvarez's 42 home runs for Tampa Bay, the kind of power season that keeps a player in the MVP conversation on its own merits. Witt Jr. is the defense-and-speed case: 7.0 WAR by FanGraphs, the actual WAR leader among the three finalists (Alvarez posted 6.8 by the same measure), plus 45 stolen bases (second in the AL) and +24 Outs Above Average at shortstop, the most of any shortstop in baseball and third among all fielders regardless of position. He hit .281 with 18 home runs, a noticeably lighter power season than Alvarez's or Caminero's, which is exactly the trade-off voters have to weigh.

Witt's full line stretched further than the top-level numbers: 33 doubles, 94 runs, a career-high 67 walks and 157 hits across 143 games, the fewest games he has played in any of his five MLB seasons. His +17 fielding run value tied Masyn Winn for the best mark among shortstops, and his 30.1 ft/s Statcast sprint speed backed up a fifth straight 30-plus steal season.

Houston's teammates noticed Alvarez's year too. "No doubt, he's hands down the best player right now in the league," second baseman Jose Altuve said of him this season. Alvarez added 109 walks, 77 extra-base hits and 33 intentional walks on top of the batting title, including a 4-for-5 night on Aug. 2 that completed a sweep of the Rangers and extended a six-game Houston winning streak.

Betting Impact: A Lock, Not a Race

A Polymarket reading cited in Yahoo Sports' Nov. 3 finalist roundup, taken at 8:49 a.m. ET that morning, had Alvarez priced at roughly 96 to 97 percent to win, with Caminero around 4 percent and Witt Jr. under 1 percent. That's a prediction market, not a traditional sportsbook moneyline, but the gap tells the real story: there's not much drama left in who actually wins it. A triple-slash line that leads the league outright in two rate categories is about as clean an MVP case as this market sees.

The value, if there is any, isn't in picking Alvarez. It's in whether Witt Jr.'s defensive and baserunning profile pulls enough down-ballot support to matter for second place in the formal vote, which can move same-season awards-futures and "best shortstop" branding props once this result is final. The National League MVP race, settled the same night, isn't nearly as lopsided. Pete Crow-Armstrong is the heavy Polymarket favorite at roughly 99 percent over Shohei Ohtani's 2 percent, but Crow-Armstrong's MLB-leading 10.6 WAR (FanGraphs) makes that one a legitimate best-player-in-baseball case rather than a coronation by default. Milwaukee's Brice Turang, the third NL finalist, carried no meaningful market price at all as of Nov. 3.

Witt's case carries its own historical weight: a win would make him just the second Royals player to win AL MVP, after George Brett in 1980, and it would mark his third straight top-five finish after landing second in 2024 and fourth in 2025.

What to Watch Next

MLB Network's Nov. 12 broadcast, 6 to 7 p.m. CT, settles this award alongside the Manager of the Year and Cy Young reveals. Between now and then, watch for a sportsbook actually posting a fresh AL MVP line instead of relying on implied prediction-market pricing; a real moneyline on a three-name field is the next data point worth tracking.
