Kawhi Leonard Trade Official 2026: What Toronto Paid the Clippers

Just before 3 p.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 14, the Toronto Raptors and LA Clippers called the Kawhi Leonard trade into the league office, per TSN's Josh Lewenberg, and the Raptors confirmed it that evening with a two-word post on X: "He back." Seventy-six days after the deal was agreed in principle on June 30, and 12 days after the NBA closed its salary-cap investigation into the Clippers, Leonard is a Raptor again.

Nothing in the package changed. What changed was the money Leonard agreed to leave on the table.

The Kawhi Leonard trade is official: the final terms

Per the Raptors' official release, carried on NBA.com, Toronto receives Leonard. The Clippers receive Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, Toronto's first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, second-round picks in 2030 and 2033, and the right to swap first-round picks in 2027. TSN, CBC and ESPN all describe the firsts as unprotected; Hoops Rumors, citing The Athletic's Law Murray, reported the terms unchanged from June.

"We're thrilled to welcome Kawhi back to Toronto," general manager and executive vice-president Bobby Webster said in the release. "His impact on our organization, our city, and our country is undeniable, and he embodies the competitiveness and championship mindset that we value."

The release also spelled out what Toronto is buying: 14 seasons, 798 games, career averages of 20.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals, plus a 2025-26 in which Leonard averaged a career-high 27.9 points, finished seventh in MVP voting and made the All-NBA Second Team.

Ingram averaged 21.5 points in 77 games for Toronto last season; Dick, the 13th pick in 2023, averaged 9.2 over 190 career games.

What changed since June 30

The picks and players did not move. Leonard's paycheque did. ESPN reported that Leonard waived his 15 percent trade kicker, worth $7.45 million, because the bonus would have pushed Toronto over the first apron. Yahoo Sports, quoting ESPN's Shams Charania and Bobby Marks, put the Raptors $2.3 million under the first apron after the deal with 13 guaranteed contracts.

Add the $700,000 fine the league handed Leonard on Sept. 2 and, as Yahoo Sports framed it, the Clippers saga has cost him roughly $8.2 million. The counterweight is the extension he is now eligible to sign in Toronto. Hoops Rumors put the two-year maximum at about $124 million; TSN reported up to $126 million, as did Yahoo Sports citing Marks. Nothing is signed, so treat those as reported ceilings rather than a contract.

The delay itself belongs to the Clippers. Toronto paused the trade on July 9, per Hoops Rumors, over fears the investigation could suspend Leonard or void his contract. What Toronto looks like now

The Raptors won 16 more games in 2025-26 than the year before, per NBA.com's John Schuhmann, and finished fifth in defensive rating at 112.1 points allowed per 100 possessions before losing to Cleveland in seven. The open question is availability: 65 games last season was a lot by his standards.

The read: Toronto is priced as the fourth or fifth team in the East, behind New York, Philadelphia and Boston and level with Miami at Caesars, per casino.org. That leaves room if Leonard plays 60 games and none if he does not.
