Brandon Nakashima was added to Team World on Sept. 17, eight days before the first ball of Laver Cup 2026. The world No. 16 replaces Ben Shelton, who has withdrawn. It is not the only change to the Team World six: Francisco Cerundolo has also replaced Tommy Paul, which is the best argument for treating any roster you read this week as provisional.

The ninth edition runs Friday Sept. 25 through Sunday Sept. 27 at The O2 in London. Team World are the defending champions, having beaten Europe 15-9 in San Francisco last year and taken three of the last four trophies. Europe brings the higher-ranked squad. Recent history says that settles very little.

Laver Cup 2026 teams: the confirmed 12

Yannick Noah captains Team Europe, with Tim Henman as vice captain: Alexander Zverev (No. 2), Carlos Alcaraz (No. 3), Flavio Cobolli (No. 7), Rafael Jodar (No. 14), Jakub Mensik (No. 15) and Ruud (No. 18). All rankings here are the PIF ATP Rankings for the week of Sept. 14, 2026.

Team World, under Andre Agassi with Patrick Rafter as vice captain, now reads: Alex de Minaur (No. 9), Taylor Fritz (No. 10), Learner Tien (No. 13), Nakashima (No. 16), Alexander Bublik (No. 17) and Cerundolo (No. 23).

Look at the gap. Europe fields five of the world's top 15, including the reigning Roland Garros and US Open champion in Zverev. World's highest-ranked man sits ninth. Nakashima makes his Laver Cup debut, arriving off a first Masters 1000 final in Montreal and a Cincinnati semifinal the week after.

One caution on sourcing. The event's Team World page was last modified Sept. 12 and still listed Shelton when this was written, so trust the Sept. 17 media update, not the team grid. The withdrawal costs the field the world No. 4. Related: Jack Draper's season-ending arm injury.

How the Laver Cup format and scoring works

Twelve matches across five sessions: nine singles and three doubles. Friday and Saturday each run a 1 p.m. BST day session and a 7 p.m. night session, doubles closing each night. Sunday starts at noon with doubles, then up to three singles if required.

The scoring is day-weighted and this is the part that matters for betting. A match win is worth one point on Friday, two on Saturday and three on Sunday. There are 24 points on the table and the first team to 13 wins the Cup. Sunday's four matches are worth 12 of those 24, as much as everything played Friday and Saturday combined. A team can lose the first two days 3-9 and still win.

Every match is best of three with ad scoring, and a split of sets goes to a 10-point match tiebreak rather than a third set. That one rule compresses skill edges hard. Each player must play at least one singles across the first two days, nobody plays more than two singles all weekend, at least four of the six must play doubles, and no doubles pairing repeats unless it returns for the Decider. At 12-12 after all 12 matches, a one-set doubles Decider with ad scoring and a tiebreak settles it. Full rules are at lavercup.com.

Lineups are deliberately late. Friday's is drawn blind Wednesday and announced Thursday. Saturday's comes an hour after Friday night's play ends, Sunday's an hour after Saturday. Winners take $250,000 each. Losers take nothing.

The betting angle for Laver Cup 2026

Start with the honest part. As of Sept. 17, DraftKings had no Laver Cup market posted: its Laver Cup league URL redirects to the general tennis hub, and the event appears nowhere in the 28 tennis leagues listed there. FanDuel's tournament page would not render without JavaScript. As of that Sept. 17 check, there was no DraftKings team-versus-team price to quote.

Match markets cannot exist before lineups do, and lineups land late: Friday's on Thursday, then Saturday's and Sunday's an hour after the previous night's play. Match markets are where Chad has something to work with, because the inputs are clean head-to-heads on one indoor hard court.

Two format quirks should shape how you price them. The 10-point tiebreak shortens the sample and flattens favorites, so heavy singles prices carry more risk than the same number would at a tour event. And doubles carries a quarter of the available points, three matches worth six of the 24. StatSniper's daily AI sports picks cover tennis through the week once lineups are public.

What to watch

Fritz versus Zverev is the marquee data point. Sixteen career meetings, and Fritz leads 10-6. Per the Laver Cup's Sept. 14 head-to-head update, written before Nakashima joined, Fritz was the only Team World player with a winning record against the European six, at 16-15. He beat both Alcaraz and Zverev in San Francisco last year, the Zverev win coming in the deciding singles match on Sunday.

Alcaraz is the other side of that coin: 6-0 against de Minaur and 4-0 against Cerundolo, per the same update. Note that the widely quoted 78-56 aggregate edge for Europe was calculated with Shelton in the World squad and is now stale. Ruud leads Bublik 7-1. Bublik leads Zverev 3-1.

The unknowns cluster around Jodar and Tien. Jodar leads Tien 2-0, and as of the Sept. 14 update, five of the seven never-played matchups between the squads involved Jodar or Tien. Those are the matches where a Sunday pick swings three points with no form line to price against.

How does Laver Cup scoring work? Each match win is worth one point Friday, two Saturday and three Sunday. First team to 13 of the 24 available points wins. At 12-12 after 12 matches, a one-set doubles Decider with ad scoring and a tiebreak decides the Cup.
