The US Open 2026 schedule: every date that matters
Qualifying at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center begins Monday, Aug. 24, and the singles main draw does not start until Sunday, Aug. 30. That six-day gap is the piece of the US Open 2026 schedule worth getting right. The bracket is released on Thursday, Aug. 27, and seeding is drawn from ATP and WTA rankings published shortly before play, so results still landing this week are moving the board.
The Lawn Tennis Association's tournament preview, published Aug. 18, confirms the main draw runs from Sunday, Aug. 30 through the men's singles final on Sunday, Sept. 13, with qualifying between Monday, Aug. 24 and Thursday, Aug. 27.
Key dates, per usopen.org, the LTA and the ESPN Press Room release of Aug. 19:
Sun, Aug. 23: Fan Week opens. Arthur Ashe Kids' Day, moved up this year to the first day, runs 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free with a Fan Access Pass.
Mon, Aug. 24: Qualifying begins. 128 men and 128 women compete for the final 16 spots in each singles main draw. Mixed Doubles Championship qualifying, an eight-team draw for two main-draw slots, plays in Grandstand at 11 a.m.
Tue, Aug. 25: Mixed Doubles Championship rounds one and two. "Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York" is at 7:30 p.m. in Arthur Ashe Stadium on a separate ticket, with ESPN2 coverage from 8 p.m. ET.
Wed, Aug. 26: Mixed Doubles semifinals and final, 7 p.m. on Ashe.
Thu, Aug. 27: Qualifying concludes. The singles main draw is announced. Stars of the Open exhibition at 6 p.m.
Fri, Aug. 28: Media Day and the US Open Block Party.
Sun, Aug. 30: Singles main draw begins, 128 players per draw.
Thu, Sept. 10: Women's semifinals, and "Open for All Day," a free-admission day on the grounds.
Fri, Sept. 11: Men's semifinals.
Sat, Sept. 12: Women's singles final.
Sun, Sept. 13: Men's singles final.
One disagreement worth flagging: Tennis Majors lists mixed doubles qualifying on Aug. 25 and the mixed doubles main draw across Aug. 26 and 27, while usopen.org puts qualifying on Aug. 24 and the main draw on Aug. 25 and 26. ESPN's broadcast grid matches the official site. Treat the tournament's own calendar as the one to plan around.
The draw and how the 32 seeds get set
Thirty-two players are seeded in each singles draw, assigned off the ATP and WTA rankings published shortly before the event. A seeded player cannot face another seed in the first round, and the LTA notes the highest seeds are placed so the leading names are spread evenly across both halves and quarters.
The mechanism that matters for anyone pricing a bracket: if a highly ranked player withdraws before the draw is made, seedings shift and the next eligible player moves into a seeded slot. Emma Raducanu has already withdrawn with an ongoing leg injury, per the LTA's Aug. 18 preview. Every late scratch between now and Aug. 27 nudges somebody from unseeded to seeded and rewrites a quarter of the bracket.
As of the LTA's Aug. 18 update, the 2026 seedings had not been announced. Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka arrive as reigning singles champions.
How the 15-day format works
The main draw is 15 days, Aug. 30 to Sept. 13, inside a 22-day event calendar that Tennis Majors describes as the longest edition in the tournament's history. The surface is Laykold acrylic hard court, and this is the fourth and final major of the season.
The first round spans three days, Aug. 30 through Sept. 1. From there the rounds pair off: second round Sept. 2 and 3, third round Sept. 4 and 5, round of 16 Sept. 6 and 7, quarterfinals Sept. 8 and 9. Day sessions start at 11 a.m. ET on most courts and noon ET on Ashe, with Ashe night sessions at 7 p.m. ET.
Sixteen qualifiers enter each singles draw having already played three matches in four days. The other 112 have not.
What the US Open 2026 schedule does to betting and DFS
The scheduling structure, not the seeding, is where the soft numbers hide.
Rest asymmetry. The first round spreads over three days and every round after it over two, so the field is split across start days rather than moving as one block. Drawn late in one round and early in the next means one night off; other paths run from two nights to four. Over four rounds that compounds. TennisUpToDate reports the top half of the draw traditionally opens the tournament with the bottom half following the next day, which means the order of play released the day before each round is real information, not scheduling trivia.
Session split. An 11 a.m. start in late-August New York heat and a 7 p.m. Ashe night session are different tennis matches. Server-heavy profiles and long-rally grinders do not travel between those conditions equally, and totals markets are slower to adjust than sides.
The Aug. 27 reprice. Until the draw drops, every path-dependent market is priced on assumption. The moment the bracket is public, quarters get read, and prices that looked stale on Aug. 26 can be gone by dinner. If you want the futures picture before then, we already broke down the men's US Open 2026 board around Sinner, Alcaraz and Djokovic and the women's market with Sabalenka, Swiatek and Gauff.
For DFS, it is simpler: slates are session-based, and a three-day first round means thinner player pools than the two-day rounds that follow.
What to watch next
Three things between now and the opening ball. Seedings, which follow the ranking cutoff and get confirmed before the Aug. 27 draw. Withdrawals, which reshuffle those seeds. And the qualifying results from Aug. 24 to 27, which fill 32 main-draw slots with players already sharp on the surface.
In the United States, every stage runs through ESPN platforms. Qualifying begins Monday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN+, with the mixed doubles final on ESPN at 9 p.m. on Aug. 26. UK viewers get the tournament on Sky Sports and NOW.
